Hyderabad, May 24: Failure to clear the tenth standard examinations has led to a student committing suicide in Nizamabad district on Sunday.
The student, identified as Dipika, was seen weeping because she had failed in the SSC exams. The results for the exams were announced earlier in the day.
Even as Dipika’s family consoled her, she went to her room and locked herself in. Her family members did not disturb her because they wanted to give her time to console herself, her father said.
After some time, her parents began to worry since there was no sound coming from her room. They peeked into the room through a window to discover her hanging by the ceiling fan.
A case has been registered.
Girls outperform boys in SSC examinations
Girls fared better than boys in the SSC public examinations in the results declared by the Board of Secondary Education in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The overall pass percentage of students passing the examinations was marginally better with 81.63 per cent passing in March 2010, as compared to 78.83 per cent who passed out in March 2009.
A total of 13,48,726 candidates (Regular and private) had appeared for the SSC Public Examinations, conducted in March 2010 as against 13,46,226 candidates registered for SSC Examinations in March, 2009.
Out of 13,48,726 candidates, 10,62,812 were regular candidates and 2,85,914 private candidates.
This is an increase of 61,283 students who appeared as regular candidates and decrease of 58,823 of the students who appeared as private candidates.
On the whole 2,460 candidates have additionally appeared for March 2010 Examinations.
The nine-point grading system similar to CBSE was introduced for the SSC Public Examinations from this year.
Also for the first time the Secondary Education Board is giving information on Date of Birth in Memorandum of Marks of failed or ‘E’ grade students.
Earlier the Date of Birth was mentioned in certificates issued to those students who had passed.
This provision helps thousands of students who have to run from pillar to post for Date of Birth document.
Students were awarded grades for securing marks in the following ranges:- A1= 600-509, A2= 508-470, B1= 469-435, B2= 434-404, C1= 403-374, C2= 373-343, D1= 342-308, D2= 307=204 & E= Not Eligible.
Highlights:
State percentage of passes of regular candidate is 81.63. The percentage of passes secured by boys is 81.27 where as girls secured 82.01.
Girls got slightly higher pass percentage than Boys.
State percentage of passes of private candidates is 42.54. The percentage of passes secured by boys is 39.58 where as girls secured 48.46 percentage of passes. The girls secured 8.88 percentage higher than boys.
This year 2433 schools secured 100 pc passes while 12 schools secured nil percentage passes.
Nizamabad district secured the highest percentage of passes (92.65 per cent) in the state and Hyderabad district secured the lowest percentage of passes (71.79 per cent).

Supplementary examination notificiation
The supplementary examinations are scheduled from 24-06-2010 to 07-07-2010 from 9:30 am to 12:00 noon. Since the time available for conduct of supplementary Examinations is short, without waiting for results of recounting, the failed candidates of SSC March 2010 who want to appear for SSC Supplementary Examinations, June 2010 may remit Examination fee by June 16, 2010.
