Dubai, February 25: Nearly 500 people have signed a Facebook campaign calling for a “day of rage” in Saudi Arabia.
The demands for the March 11th rally include an elected ruler, greater freedom for women and releasing political prisoners.
At the moment it’s not possible to determine how many of the these people are actually in the country or if such a protest will actually occur.
Activists say a recent Internet call for a Riyadh demonstration died when nobody showed up.
Another protest in Jeddah was quickly broken up.
Saudi Arabia controls more than a fifth of all oil reserves.
Despite the oil wealth, the Saudi unemployment rate has recently been above ten percent.
Early today King Abdullah announced a new series of benefits.
While they don’t include political reform he said the country would aid the young unemployed, pay tuition to study abroad and wave some loans.
