Indore: A man today allegedly stabbed to death a teenage girl whom he had befriended on social media posing as a woman.
24-year-old Amit Yadav, who made the account by the name Atharva, also attacked the girl’s mother.
According to the police, Yadav stabbed Priya Rawat (17) at her house in Geeta Nagar area here. When her mother Kiran tried to intervene, Yadav stabbed her too, wounding her critically.
Palasia police station in-charge Rajendra Soni said the girl succumbed at the hospital while her mother was undergoing treatment.
Yadav had allegedly befriended Priya through a fake Facebook profile of a woman, and used to chat with her online.
When she learnt that this Facebook friend was in fact a man, she stopped talking to him, Soni said.
The accused messaged her yesterday saying he would be coming to meet her today. He turned up at the girl’s house today and asked why she had stopped chatting with him.
Priya told him that as he had lied to her, she did not want to have any contact with him. Angered by the answer, Yadav stabbed her with a knife and also attacked her mother who came to help daughter, he said.
He then jumped from the second floor of the house to flee and broke his leg.
Police have admitted him to a hospital. He appeared to be mentally unsound and further investigation is on, Soni said.
