Fabregas says Chelsea will miss outgoing Mourinho

Johannesburg, Dec. 18 : Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has extended his gratitude to the club’s sacked manager Jose Mourinho, saying that the players will miss him.

The embattled Portuguese manager was axed after Chelsea incurred nine defeats in 16 Premier League games, which put the defending champions just one point above the relegation zone.

The 28-year-old midfielder posted a picture of him along with Mourinho celebrating Chelsea’s league title success last year, and tweeted, “Thank you for all you have done for me. I owe you a lot and we will all miss you. Good luck in the future.”

Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that there was no option left with the club but to sack the manager following their 1-2 defeat against top-placed Leicester City.

Chelsea had cited `palpable discord between manager and players` as the reason behind the dismissal of Mourinho.

It is believed that Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who served as an interim coach of Chelsea in 2009, would make a return to the club in a similar role.

Mourinho had guided Chelsea to a Premier League and League Cup double last season. He was previously shown the door by Chelsea in 2007 after a successful three-year stint at the club in which he won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.(ANI)
