Hyderabad, October 28: Driving along the prestigious P V Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway is not as smooth a ride as one would expect.
Motorists driving on the 11.6 km stretch have to face bumpy rides and confront jerks as they go along. Certain stretches of the elevated corridor offer a smooth ride while others can end up backbreaking.
Motorists have already brought to the notice of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) these unwelcome aspects and urged the concerned authorities to attend to the problem.
GHMC Commissioner S P Singh who is also incharge of HMDA held discussions with senior HMDA officials in his chamber on Monday to sort out the problem and find a solution.
Motorists complained that the drive is not as pleasurable as on the other flyovers in the twin cities. Even the HMDA authorities informed that on 5 to 6 stretches of the elevated corridor people are experiencing a bumpy drive causing inconvenience to the motorist.
HMDA officials have taken up the issue with contractor and consultant to iron out these glitches.
BUMP INTEGRATED TEST: To over come the problem, HMDA will conduct a ‘Bump Integrated Test’ on the expressway.
The tests would be carried by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) experts in the next few days. Experts from Road and Buildings (R&B) will also assist in the testing, HMDA officials said.
The officials said that as the expressway is newly constructed, bumpy rides would be a part and parcel. After one month the corridor will be back to normal like other flyovers and bumps rides would be minimised to a large extent.
As per the norms, from 2,000 to 2,500 bumps are common in a 1 km stretch and these are not noticed while driving. If the bumps are more than 2,500 there is need for rectification, they said.
The material used for the entire stretch is of standard quality. The material used comprise of 14 mm mastic and 50 mm of BCI, which is one of the best polymer modified bitumen material.
