Explosion kills 14 in Syria’s Idlib

Syria, January 21: The blast targeted a prison truck on the road between Idlib and Mastumeh village on Saturday.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident yet.

Meanwhile, the Arab League’s observer delegation, which is in the country to monitor the 10-month-long unrest, visited the National Hospital in Idlib, where the wounded have been taken.

The Arab League’s deputy chief of operations, Ali Jarush, said on Friday that the mission was likely to be extended by a month.

The head of the mission, Sudanese General Mohammed Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi, is preparing to report to Arab foreign ministers, who are to meet on Sunday in Cairo.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011, with demonstrations being held both against and in favor of President Bashar al-Assad.

Damascus blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, which it says is being orchestrated from abroad.
