Mumbai, January 22:The National Commission of Minorities (NCM) has sought an explanation from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) over the arrest of an informer from the national capital on the charge of participating in the terrorist activities in the metropolis last year, the sources in the state government said today.
Naquee Ahmed, a resident of New Delhi, was arrested by ATS last week for allegedly procuring SIM cards with forged documents, but his family had a different tale to say.
According to a news report in a section of media, one of the family members, who is camped in Mumbai, said Ahmed was helping the Special Cell in nabbing the bombers of serial bomb blasts in Mumbai on July 13 last year.
Ahmed, whose family hails from Bihar, has been able to help the central security agencies and the Special Cell in identifying two sketches of Waqas and Tabrez, who are alleged to have planted bombs at three places in Mumbai last year, in which 26 people were killed.
The 23-year-old man apparently knew about the two people as he was introduced to them by one of his neighbours — Jamali, who was arrested by the Special Cell in November last year, he said.
The family member also said that he also identified Waqas from a closed-circuit camera footage taken outside a store in Zaveri Bazaar area, where a bomb went off, and finally the Delhi Police and central security agencies requested him to identify the two who were staying at Mumbai in a room for which Naquee had helped them by introducing them to the broker.
