Lucknow, January 20: The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to inform the court on January 21 of the reason behind its slow response to the ongoing CBI inquiry into the seven missing documents related to the Ayodhya title suits.
Passing the order, a special full bench comprising Justice Sibghat Ullah Khan, Justice Sudhir Agarwal and Justice Dharam Veer Sharma asked the Principal secretary (Home) to submit a reply to the court through the standing counsel on that date, saying if it does not get a proper response it may summon the officials responsible.
“If proper response is not given, we may be compelled to summon such officer, who are found negligent,” the court said.
On the CBI report submitted today in response to the court’s directives issued on Jan 13, the order said, “If the facts mentioned in the report, particularly in the chart annexed there with are correct, then it paints a very bad picture of the state and it’s higher officers. However, at present we are not recording any conclusive findings in this regard”.
The seven missing documents include correspondence between UP government and Faizabad District Magistrate in 1949, a message of the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru to the state government for removal of idols from the Babri mosque.
