Apprehending the handiwork of narcotic smugglers besides infiltrators, Inspector General Border Security Force S K Mishra today said that experts from the national capital would be invited to find out the facts about the tunnel’s link across the international border in Pakistan. “We have requested the experts of Department of Geological and Mining from New Delhi and a team will soon arrive to conduct searches in the area along International Border to ascertain whether the tunnel dug is having connection between India and Pakistan or not,” Mr Mishra this afternoon told reporters during his visit to village Chechwal of Samba district. An ‘underground tunnel’ was unearthed by a villager in his field on July 28 along India-Pakistan border near forward Chilyari Post in village Chechwal of Samba district and he informed the BSF personnel. The IG BSF said, “the tunnel was existing underground and needs to be surveyed,” adding that a team of experts would help them to find out entry and exit points of the tunnel. “At this point, the modus operandi cannot be ascertained but, we also suspect the hands of narcotic smugglers besides infiltrators,” he added. BSF had observed the movement of infiltrators on other side of the border on certain occasions and many a times cross firing incidents have also taken place. A BSF jawan recently got injured some three months back near Border Pillar number 90, close to the spot where the tunnel was found, but there was no firing on IB since last one month. “We will definitely lodge a protest, whenever a flag meeting will be organised with our counterparts,” he said. The IGP further alleged that the Pakistan has developed new technique of sneaking into Indian territory. UNI
