Tirumala, October 28: The 346 jewels, studded with diamonds and other precious stones, out of the 1,096 ornaments of Lord Venkateswara at the temple here have been certified as genuine and authentic.
A team of gemologists from Surat, Jaipur and Mumbai has tested each and every ornament that is studded with diamonds or other precious stones. Along with the digitized pictures, the details of that particular jewel have also been digitized.
The verification report was submitted to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams executive officer IYR Krishna Rao here today by Rajiv Jain, chairman of the Gems and Jewelry Export Promotion Council of India.
The TTD executive officer said that the verification process commenced in February this year. As per the Tiruvabharanam and Jathy registers, the number of ornaments, including those studded with diamonds and other precious stones, was 1,096.
Former committee member and convener of Colour Stones Nitin Pachigar, Gem Testing Laboratory chairman Mehul Durlabhji, research scientist from GII-Mumbai Shastry, GII chief gemologist KT Ramachandran, Jaipur GTL chief gemologist Gagan Chowdary, JTAC member (Mumbai) Sameer Mehta, TTD chief accounts officer O Balaji, deputy EO (temple) Gopalakrishna, EDP manager Bhaskar and others were present.
