Expelled AIADMK members join DMK

Chennai, June 07: Three expelled Opposition AIADMK members, Former Minister S Muthusamy and ex-MLAs V K Chinnasamy and ‘Erode’ Manickam, today joined the ruling DMK. The three leaders met DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Party Headquarters “Anna Arivalayam” and formally joined the DMK.

Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, Senior Ministers, including Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy and Law Minister Duraimurugan, were among those present on the occasion.

All the three were inducted into the DMK as primary members.

Later, they told reporters that a large number of their supporters from across the State would join the DMK in the presence of Mr Karunanidhi on June 12. Mr Muthusamy, an AIADMK heavyweight in Erode District of Tamil Nadu, was expelled along with his loyalists Chinnasamy and Manickam by AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa for alleged anti-party activities.

They were also removed from the primary membership of the AIADMK for causing disrepute to the party and giving media interviews in violation of party rules.

The expulsion of Mr Muthusamy came a couple of days after Ms Jayalalithaa said she was ready to personally meet him to redress his grievances and she would not allow even a single member to quit the party.

Mr Muthusamy dashed off a 16-page letter to the Party High Command, but was sacked even he was awaiting a response to it from Ms Jayalalithaa.

Later, he said he would consider joining the DMK and did so today
