The Majlis Bachau Tahreek on Saturday accused the All India Industrial Exhibition Society (AIIE) of avoiding Urdu language in the posters and banners of platinum jubilee celebrations of Numaish. It also condemned the Society for ignoring the Last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan.
In a letter to the Exhibtion Society Secretary, MBT leader and ex-Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan said that the Numaish was started by a group of Osmania University graduates in 1938 during the reign of Last Nizam. “It was due to Nizam’s interest and support that the Numaish turned into a culture and became an inseparable part of Hyderabad. Starting from a mere 100 stalls for 10 days in 1938, today it is considered one of the biggest commercial congregations of the country. However, the Exhibition Society has deliberately avoided the Last Nizam neither his name nor his pictures were used in any of the institutions run by the Society. Similarly, the Nizam’s picture is also missing from the posters of Platinum Jubilee celebrations published by the Exhibition Society,” he alleged.
The MBT leader also condemned the Society for neglecting Urdu in its posters. “While Urdu has been removed from the Society’s sign board, the Platinum Jubilee posters were printed only in English and Telugu languages. The Society members have ignored the fact that at least 75 per cent of the people who visit Numaish are Urdu speaking. This is an open insult not only to the Urdu speaking population, but also to the founders of Exhibition Society who studied in Osmania University in Urdu medium,” he said.
Amjed Ullah Khan threatened that the MBT would launch a strong protest if the Exhibition Society does not use Urdu and the pictures of Last Nizam in all its sign boards, posters, banners and other literature. (INN)
