Swayambhar NARI (Non-formal Action Research Institute), a Kolkata-based voluntary organization, is conducting a seven-day Exhibition of Handicrafts of Shantiniketan here at the YWCA, West Marredpally Road, Secunderabad from August 28.
The exhibition will showcase different types of Handicrafts from Santineketan – Madur (mat), Jute Chappals, Jute Bags, Men’s & Women’s Silk & Cotton Kurtas, Dress Materials, Cotton, Silk & Tassar printed Sarees, Fancy & Stone Ornaments & also different Boutique from Kolkata. The highlight of the exhibition is Sarees-Tussar, Silk and Cotton Block Printed which are most sought after in this part of the country. Besides promoting the handicrafts and handlooms, the exhibition lays special stress to shun plastics and use Jute and other eco-friendly products. The exhibition will last till September 3.
NARI joint secretary Sudeshna Paul has stated that the proceeds of the Exhibition will go to the poor artisans, who do not have the knowledge or resources to promote their products.
