Exemplary courage: Woman fights off ‘tiger’ with a stick, posts selfie on FB

MUMBAI: A 23-year-old woman fought off a tiger single-handedly armed with nothing but a stick and scared it off.

According to the BBC, the incident took place in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district on March 24 when Rupali Meshram, a commerce graduate finishing the daily chores heard the goat screaming in panic.

Rupali ran out only to discover the largest species of big cats had attacked them.

She picked up a stick lying nearby and began hitting the tiger in an attempt to divert the cat’s attention which then moved forth and pounced on her.

Fortunately, Rupali was rescued by her mother, Jijabhai, who pulled her inside the house.

“I thought my daughter was going to die,” the mom told BBC Hindi.

Doctor treating Rupali for superficial injuries she suffered to her head, waist, legs and hands lauded for her “exemplary courage”. Her mom suffered minor injury near her eye.

Post attack, Rupali took a number of selfies and shared it on social networking site with a harrowing account of her fight with the big cat.
