Excitement lacking as Rededication Day nears

Hyderabad, May 17: This time around, excitement is singularly lacking as the clock ticks away to May 20 when the Congress will celebrate the sixth anniversary of its ascension to power _ Rededication Day _ at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

Though chief minister K Rosaiah has been trying his best to bring about a semblance of order in the party and the government, his efforts do not appear to be bearing fruit with MPs declaring verbal wars against ministers in some districts.

The two incidents, one in Guntur and the other in Kurnool, appear to have jarred the party bosses at the state level as they prepare for the annual ritual of the Rededication Day. In Guntur, MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao made serious allegations of corruption against industries minister K Lakshminarayana and his Kurnool counterpart K Suryaprakash Reddy targeted housing minister Silpa Mohan Reddy with allegations that the latter had ganged up with the Telugu Desam to deal a blow to the party at the ground level.

As May 20 is nearing, a nervous PCC chief D Srinivas made an appeal to the party leaders not to utilise the Rededication Day occasion to settle scores with one another but come out with useful and constructive suggestions to the party in an attempt to strengthen it further.
