The Kakatiya University of Warangal has postponed all the examinations to be held on Tuesday. University registrar said it would be later announced when the examinations would be held again.
In Chittoor district, apart from preventing buses from plying, opposition parties had also forced the educational institutions to close. Many institutions voluntarily declared a holiday.
In Khammam town, bandh was peaceful. Leaders and cadres of left parties came onto the roads in the wee hours and prevented buses from leaving the depots. 736 buses of 6 depots could not ply. Auto drivers unions also supported the bandh and did not ply three wheelers. Educational institutions and business establishments were also largely closed. Even petrol pumps were forced to close.
In east Godavari district, RTC authorities themselves did not operate the buses from Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Peddapuram and other depots. Business, commercial and educational establishments also supported the bandh and downed their shutters.
In Vijayawada also bandh was intense. CPI and CPI(M) leaders stopped buses at the Nehru Bus Station. Leaders squatted at the bus depots at Vidyadharapuram, Governorpet and Auto Nagar depots.
The police made elaborate security arrangements in view of the bandh and to ensure there was no break of law and order. Armed picket were posted mat all important and sensitive points and regular patrolling was conducted. The bnadh by and large was peaceful except for stray incidents here and there.
