Exams play spoilsport this New Year

Hyderabad, December 21: The coming New Year’s eve is going to be far from usual for the students of the city as there is more to crib than rejoice. Due to the ongoing Telangana crisis the Osmania University and JNTU postponed the semester exams of various courses, which were due to be finished by December. The rescheduled exams will now spread into January leaving no option for hapless students but to study throughout the party season.

Pallav Kumar, a final year engineering student from Mathrushri was in for a shock as he saw his new time table. “I have an exam on January 1 and I was very upset to know that. On the 31st night when everyone will be ringing in the New Year with fun and frolic, we have to do it with books. It is neither possible to celebrate nor easy to concentrate on studies,” he complains and adds “What is more annoying is the fact that I have planned the celebrations beforehand.”

Pallav who planned a get together with his family and then thought of attending a DJ night now has to forget it all. “The authorities should have atleast thought about it and not kept an exam on the 1st.” he protests.
For Sindhu Gudi, a final year law student, the postponement of the exams has only resulted in more anxiety and stress. “Usually the exams get over by mid-December and it is a relief. Thus the whole mood only adds up to the festive atmosphere of the season and don’t face any problem from parents too in letting our hair down,” she says.

But this time since the exams were postponed suddenly, we were not prepared for it. Now a delay in exams means more days and nights of pressure. Our exams will start from December 23 and will go till January 5 which will definitely kill the spirit of New Year.”

Since the city also witnesses a lot of youngsters travelling to various destinations in the country, the recent development seem to have put brakes on their plans much to their disappointment.

“I along with a group of friends were planning to travel to Goa this new year. In fact we even booked the hotel rooms and made other arrangements as well. But due to the exams clashing with the New Year’s eve we had no choice but to cancel it. Its saddening that now we have to wait one more year to experience that kind of revelry,” Vijay Rakesh, a student of CBIT remarked.
As the students get ready with their books, pens and hall tickets they hope that atleast next year atleast is spared of spoilers like this.
