Hyderabad, March 01: A 68-year-old retired police officer was on Monday arrested for harassing his wife. The former cop’s arrest incidentally revealed that he had married five women. The accused, Ghulam Mahmood Ali, retired as a circle inspector some eight years back.
According to police, the series of marriages started after the death of his first wife. He divorced his second wife some time after the marriage. He married a third woman and has been staying with her at Yakutpura.
Mahmood also married two other woman. One of them, Nusrath Fatima (40), a resident of Amberpet, lodged a complaint with the police in January that he had been harassing her physically and mentally for the past few days, Amberpet police inspector T Goverdhan said. The other wife, Reshma Sultana, a resident of Dabeerpura, had also lodged a complaint against Mahmood for harassing her in Dabeerpura police station a few days ago.
Amberpet police registered a case under section 498 A (harassment) on the complaint of Nusrath Fathima and arrested Mahmood on Monday.
