He is survived by his wife and three children.
On December 8, 1990, Abdul Qadeer was arrested on the spot for killing the then Superior Assistant Commissioner of Police N. Sattaiya at Chhatrinaka police station at the peak of communal riots in the old city in which over 200 people died and hundred others injured.
The state government and police gave the former constable the image of ‘Muslim fanatic and a Hindu hater’ before the honorable court.
On December 31, 1992, the court had found the then 29 year old Police Constable Abdul Qadeer guilty and awarded him life imprisonment of killing his senior on-duty from his service weapon.
He said he paid a serious price but at that time he thought it was the best thing to do.
“I was witnessing the injustices of police on the people especially Muslims, higher police officials were encouraging riots and rioters and sometimes they even instigating the riots by burning a property of a particular community and then blaming it on another community. They even gone to the extent of playing the voice recording of screams for help, when local people came out for help they will open fire on them. I was disillusioned by seeing my superiors in those communal acts. That is why I took that drastic step,” he was quoted as saying to a newspaper.
In 2004, after completing 14 years imprisonment, he was released on parole for 1 month for the first time.
He was granted parole in view of his failing health and on many occasions like festival and wedding of his daughter.
Qadeer, a diabetic patient, claims to have underwent police torture even after the conviction.
On 29 March 2016, Abdul Qadeer was finally released after serving 25 years and and 3 months of imprisonment in a Hyderabad jail at Cherlapalli jail, on humanitarian grounds.
