Ex-CJ seeks political parties’ support to eradicate liquor menace

Anti-Liquor Agitation Committee chairman and former chief justice Ambati Lakshmana Rao on Sunday called upon all the political parties to create awareness among people over the eradication of liquor menace.

Participating as chief guest in a programme held at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram at Baghlingampally over the New Excise Policy of Government, Lakshmana Rao said that the government has totally failed to implement prohibition and only through awareness campaigns among people the liquor menace could be tackled effectively. He alleged that the government wants to mobilize maximum revenues by selling liquor through belt shops.

The former CJ called upon the parties to consider ways and means to bring necessary changes in the policy and prevent liquor menace. “Only through sustained agitation, with the help of all parties, the eradication of liquor menace would be possible. All parties should focus attention in this direction,” he advised.

Though poor and middle class people are earning Rs 100-150 daily through NREGS, the government has been exploiting the labourers by making them slaves to liquor, said Bharatiya Janata Party state president G Kishan Reddy. (INN)
