Ex-army man’s antics baffle Allahabad admin

Allahabad, August 03: The district administrationhere is baffled at not being able to trace an ex-army officerwho had obtained a licensed revolver 27 years ago but failedto return it after the stipulated period.

“Captain Shekhar Singh had applied for a licensedrevolver in 1982 at the time of his posting here citing threatto his life. He was, thereafter, allotted a .32 Webley Scotrevolver for a period of three months,” District MagistrateRajeev Agrawal told PTI.

The whereabouts of Singh remain unknown ever since he gotdismissed from the services seven years ago.

Agrawal said the officer did not deposit the revolverwith the administration even after the expiry of three monthsand attempts by the administration to trace him has since beenunsuccessful.

“We wrote to the Director General of MilitaryIntelligence, in June last year, seeking details of theofficer but it proved to be of no avail,” the DM said.

“Finally, the matter was communicated to the Army chiefon June 3, 2009 and the latter’s office replied that theofficer, who was later promoted to the rank of Colonel, wasdismissed from service on March 23, 2002, Agrawal.
