Hyderabad, July 12: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be the first local body in the state to use electronic voting machines (EVM), when it goes to polls in August.Nearly 15,000 EVMs are being obtained from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).
It has been proposed that the representatives of political parties would be allowed to scrutinise the EVMs brought by the GHMC for using in the election. This was mooted in the wake of allegations that the machines can be tampered with.
Officials have also decided to conduct a mock polling, using the EVMs, in the presence of representatives of all political parties. A senior official in the election wing of the GHMC said a 10-day training programme would be conducted to train government employees put on poll duty.
