Shimla, September 10: Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) would be used for the first time in urban local bodies elections in Himachal Pradesh.
“EVMs would be used for the 48 Municipal Committees in the state, elections for which would be conducted alongwith the panchayat polls”, state Election Commissioner Dev Swaroop said.
The five-year term of existing Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) and urban local bodies expire in the last week of January next year, Swaroop told medeapersons here.
He said that in order to ensure free and fair polls for PRIs and local bodies, some changes have been made in the procedure of preparing the electoral rolls.
