New Delhi, Aug. 3 : Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who suspended 25 Congress MPs for five days for disrupting the Parliament, on Monday said her job is to ensure that the House functions smoothly and added everybody must follow the rules.
“It is not the question of deadlock. Breaking the deadlock is the government’s job, ruling party and the opposition have to decide it. My job is to ensure that House functions in a proper manner…I have asked them several times to stop raising placards…I have been tolerating it for the last eight days; they even tried to shadow the Speaker,” Mahajan told mediapersons.
“It is not in my nature to take stringent action, I had even called an all-party meeting…It is a message that everybody has to go by rules,” she added.
According to reports, Mahajan had named around 25 Congress MPs as ‘disruptors’. She has suspended them under ruling 374 (A).
The lawmakers, who have been suspended, include Gaurav Gogoi, Sushmita Dev,Deepender Hooda, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury,BN Chandrappa, Abhijit Mukherjee, Santokh Chaudhary,Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury, R Dhruvanarayana, Ninong Ering, BV Nayak and Suresh Kodikunnil.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 11 am Tuesday following frequent disruption by the opposition parties. (ANI)
