London, Aug 28: Around 200 bodies have been found floating off the coast of one of the main people-smuggling hubs in Libya after two boats carrying up to 500 migrants capsized off Zuwara, a port in western Libya.
According to the Guardian, a Libyan coastguard vessel found the bodies around a kilometre from Zuwara.
Zuwara is a major departure point for refugees who hope to reach Italy.
Around 40 bodies were found inside a half-sunk fishing boat as it was brought towards the shore by the high tide, according to a representative of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) who was helping to coordinate the humanitarian response.
Up to 160 others were discovered floating nearby, while around 110 survivors were rescued.
It the incident is confirmed, the total number of deaths in the Mediterranean will reach over 2,500.
