European Court’s historic judgment in favour of refugees

France: European Court at Luxemburg pronounce a judgment that the laws of European Union do not permit to arrest any refugee entering into any European country unless he is suspected of committing any crime or facing deporting proceedings.

This judgment came in the wake of large scale exodus from Eastern African countries. This judgment has been pronounced in the case of Celina Efun, a citizen of Ghana who was imprisoned in 2013 by French Police from Channel Tunnel when she was travelling by bus from Belgium to Britain on the passport of another person. French police alleged that she entered France illegally and she was asked to return. Her lawyers challenged her arrest.
