Johannesburg : Star striker Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty as Portugal settled with a goalless draw against Austria in their Group F clash of the European Championship at Parc des Princes in Paris on Sunday.
Skipper Ronaldo, who set a new Portuguese record with his 128th international cap, missed a sitter from eight yards in the 22nd minute before again losing a genuine chance to put his side ahead with a 79th-minute penalty.
Austria too had a chance to break the deadlock when striker Martin Harnik nodded midfielder Marcel Sabitzer’s whipped cross just wide, Sport24 reported.
It was Portugal’s second consecutive draw in Euro 2016. They were held to a 1-1 draw against Iceland in their opening match.
Meanwhile, Austria, who are languishing at the bottom in group standings, must win their final match in order to avoid a premature exit.
Portugal will now take on group leaders Hungary while Austria will play against Iceland in their final group match. (ANI)
