European Union ( EU) leaders have reportedly implored their foreign ministers to respond to the ongoing fighting in Ukraine and consider imposing a new wave of sanctions on Russia.
A statement released by the leaders asked the ministers, who are scheduled to meet on Thursday, to “consider any appropriate action, in particular on further restrictive measures,” reported the BBC.
It asked Russia to meet the terms of last September’s Minsk ceasefire deal , which has been ignored amid heavy shelling by both Ukrainian troops and pro- Russia separatists.
The Ukrainian military said that there had been heavy rebel mortar and artillery fire near the town of Debaltseve and the village of Luhanskaya.
