Brussels, April 08: EU High Representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, Friday expressed her deep concern over the current escalation of violence in Gaza.
Ashton in a statement condemned yesterday’s mortar and rocket attacks out of the Gaza strip and deplored the loss of civilian life in Gaza and called on Israel to show restraint.
“Only an immediate cessation of all violence can bring back the calm necessary to allow for a lasting truce in the Gaza strip,” she said.
Israeli air strikes and tank fire killed four and injured 30 Palestinians in Gaza on Thursday after two Israelis were injured in a bomb attack against an Israeli buss apparently carried out by a Palestinian group.
