Estimate Committee seeks report on sanitation in star hotels, hospitals

The State Legislative Assembly’s Committee on Estimates on Thursday asked the State Government to review and prepare a report on the status of sanitation being maintained by the star hotels and corporate hospitals.

According to sources, the issue was discussed during the Committee’s meeting held under the chairmanship of Ch Muthyam Reddy at the Assembly’s Committee Hall. The committee members have also pointed out the cleanliness and proper sanitation was not being maintained by the government hospitals. Therefore, the committee has decided to conduct surprise visits in government hospitals to inspect the status.

The committee also took note of the improper mechanism in government hospital in dealing with the maternity cases. Some members said that even poor people were forced to visit private hospitals due to lack of facilities in the government maternity hospitals. The officials have been advised to take measures for effective care of would-be-mothers from the sixth month of pregnancy by utilising the services of ASHA workers.

The committee has also sought the statistics related to the functioning of Primary Health Centres across the State. Sources say that the committee noted that the Health Department was unable to function proper due to frequent of transfers of Principal Secretaries. It asked the government to take measures to resolve the issue on permanent basis.
