Hyderabad, September 27: From Monday, traffic police would be cracking the whip on auto drivers, particularly those who refuse to carry passengers and demand extra fare above the meter charge. Traffic police have decided to take up the special drive after many citizens complained about problems faced by them.
“Decoy parties would be deployed to catch auto drivers who resort to such acts,” additional commissioner of police (traffic), CV Anand said in a release. Apart from these two violations, the drive would also cover offences of carrying extra passengers, more than six school children, resorting to auto piloting, rash driving, bus-bay and wrong parking, signal jumping, wrong side driving, driving without uniform, driving licence and other documents.
Traffic police would be intensifying checking of pending challans with help of a Programmable Device Application (PDA) as some auto drivers were having more than 50 e-challans pending against them. Police said the fine imposed would not be less than Rs 100 and even be up to Rs 1,000 depending upon the violation.
Police said they were taking steps to streamline parking of autos at the Secunderabad railway station.
