Equal progress is the need of the Hour: Governor

Hyderabad, December 11: Governor of A.P. Mr. E.S.L.Narasimhan, stressed the need for ensuring progress in all the rural areas by providing complete infrastructural facilities so that the Culture of theVillage is preserved. He was addressing the inaugural function of 11th Asian Urbanisation Conference in Hyderabad. In his inaugural address, the Governor stressed the need to take effective steps for providing basic amenities in villages so that the migration of people from rural areas to urban areas could be checked.

Quoting a recent survey, the Governor said that by 2025 it is expected that more than half of world’s population will be in uraban or semiurban areas. He also said that in order to tackle the problems of urbansation, it is necessary to delegate powers to local bodies. Other speakers were Prof. S. Satyanarayana, V.C. of Osmania University, Prof. Ashok Dutt,(USA), Prof. Kalpana Markanday, Prof. B.Lakshmaiah, Dr. Srinagesh etc. The conference was organized by the Dept. of Geography of Osmania University. Many participants from various Asian countries attended in the conference.
