Ensure drinking water supply during summer- CM m to officials

Hyderabad, April 15:The Chief Minister, Mr N Kiarn Kumar Reddy on Friday directed the District Collectors to go with Continence Plan to tackle the problems that arise in drinking water supply, power supply, migrations from villages in the summer season.

Interacting with the District Collectors through Video Conference from the Secretariat here, the Chief Minister said that drinking water problem, break out of seasonal diseases and migration of people would generally takes place in the season of summer. The Official machinery should gear up to avoid any hardship to the people in this season. He directed the Collectors to lay special focus on drinking water supply both in rural and urban areas. The drinking water problem would generally arise due to two reasons – scarcity of water and mistakes in water supply and electricity.

Stating that the Government has already released funds for the purpose of drinking water, he said that Rs 52 crores have been released for rural and Rs 42 crores for urban areas as first phase.

The 1,868 ongoing drinking water schemes with Rs 572 Crores may not be completed by this summer. Hence, the water should be supplied to the required areas through transportation. The District Collectors should also chalk out contingency plan for transportation of water in the summer. The District Collectors should coordinate with Rural Water Supply and Electricity Department in the matters of drinking water, he added.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy instructed the officials that required revolving stock of transformers should be kept at mandals and district headquarters and the burnt transformers should be replaced with new ones within 48 hours. The meetings of Sub Station Committee chaired by the MLA concerned should be held once in every 15 days during summer.

Referring to the migration of labor in some areas in summer season, the Chief Minister instructed the District Collectors to take steps to prevent the migration by ensuing working days under NREGP. About 65 days of work should be provided to the beneficiaries in the three months time of summer. For the purpose, a contingency plan would be taken up with Rs 5,500 crores in the summer, he added.

Stating that seasonal diseases would break out the agency areas particularly in Vishaka agency, the Chief Minister said that DM&HOs should take necessary steps to prevent the seasonal diseases.

Ministers, Mr Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Mr D Sridhar babu, Mr Balaraju, Mr Ponnala Laxmaiah, Mr N Raghuveera Reddy and Mr Mahidhar Reddy, Chief Secretary, Mr S V Prasad and officials also attended the video conference.
