Former Minister and Congress Coordination Committee member Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Monday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh appealing him to ensure 4.5 percent quota for socially and educationally backward minority communities in the Central Government’s educational institutions and in employment.
Releasing the letter to media at Gandhi Bhavan, Shabbir Ali appealed to the Prime Minister to convene a review meeting in consultation with the Ministries of Human Resource Development, Law and Justice and Welfare in view of Andhra Pradesh High Court quashing 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities within the 27 pc Central quota for Other Backward Classes. He appealed to the Prime Minister to take appropriate action against the concerned Ministries responsible for the lapses in providing sub-quota for Muslims.
Shabbir Ali appealed to the government to file an appeal against the judgment of High Court in the Supreme Court when the hearing comes up before it on July 2 and create confidence building especially among the minority community.
