Johannesburg : England have appointed former off-spinner Robert Croft as a consulting spin bowling coach to assist their slow bowlers ahead of the upcoming ODI series against South Africa.
Confirming the news, England’s director of cricket Andrew Strauss said Croft has had success at both domestic and international level, adding that his experience would offer a lot to the side, Sport24 reported.
Strauss insisted that the 45-year-old player had worked with England’s performance programme and, therefore, he hopes Croft’s involvement would prove to be beneficial for the team.
Croft, who appeared in 50 ODIs for his side, would join the coaching team of Trevor Bayliss, Paul Farbrace, Ottis Gibson and Graham Thorpe for a 12-day period at the start of the series.
England will play a five-match ODI series against South Africa, starting from February 3 at Chevrolet Park.(ANI)
