Engineering student killed in accident

Hyderabad, November 11: An engineering student was killed while his friend escaped with minor injuries in a hit-and-run case on city outskirts on Wednesday.

The victim, Chandar Venkateshwar Rao (21) was a first-year BTech student of the MLR College, Dhulapally. He was the son of Raghavendra Rao, a reporter in a private news channel.

Dundigal police said Venkateshwar Rao left his house for college around 9 a.m on his bike. One of his friends, Abhishek Goud joined him mid-way. They were on their way to college when an unidentified vehicle hit their bike head-on at Boarampet crossroads around 9.40 a.m.

“Venkateshwar Rao fell down and suffered severe head injuries while Abhishek Goud escape with minor bruises,’’ Dundigal police said. According to Abhishek Goud and an elderly woman who runs a roadside tea stall near the crossroads, a lorry hit the bike. The lorry driver fled the spot and no one noticed its registration number, police said.

Police have registered a case under Section 304A (rash and negligent act leading to death) and are trying to trace the vehicle.
