Solution & Performance Engineer
ROLE PURPOSE
Role of a Engineer for Solution & Performance Eng. covers:
Providing high level expertise, technical support and consultation to the IT Functions on infrastructure solution design
Integration of TIS architecture standards at the earliest stage, and throughout the application development process is the most important aspect of strategy
Maintain an solution viewpoint which goes beyond individual applications (i.e. application architecture) as well as beyond individual technology domains (i.e. domain architecture)
EXPERIENCE
More than 8 years of IT experience in large scale infrastructure teams in global environment and delivering infrastructure services across geographic and business boundaries.
Knowledge in application development
Infrastructure solution design / architecture experience
Deep knowledge and experience in several of the infrastructure building blocks Networking, servers, storage, virtualization, middleware, databases and more
Experience in hosting applications in AWS, Azure
Experience in managing application, technology and hardware life cycle management including virtualization, migration and transformation
Experience in infrastructure sizing using relevant input parameters
Ability to translate technology into business value
Good understanding of Novartis business processes and objectives
Capability to lead global teams
Good project management skills
Good communicator
Responsible for managing both operational and capital budgets
Managed large scale infrastructure and business projects
Effective relationship management experience
Experienced in coordination and in directing service providers
ACCOUNTABILITIES
In addition to accountabilities listed above in Job Purpose:
Ensures creation of detailed IT solution/service design matching high level designs and functional specifications to meet quality and performance requirements
Early integration of TIS with the business before application work commences to understand demand from each business unit and build pipeline capability to meet business demands (T minus planning).
Integration of TIS with Business IT from day 1 in the Plan phase for all application hosting and solution provision.
Continuous integration of TIS with application development through Build and Transition into Run.
Reuse of standard technologies and architecture principles and patterns across all delivery platforms and between TIS and IT Function
Ensures components of standard services are sourced and delivered from a defined service catalogue
Delivery of all services in compliance with all applicable internal (e.g. IGM Framework) and external (e.g. SoX, GxP) regulations and security requirements.
Responsible for the overall coordination and design of the required solution. He/She understands how architectures, strategies, designs and plans fit together and understands all the main aspects of design.
Designs secure and resilient hosting solutions that meet all the current and anticipated future IT requirements of the organization.
Produces and maintains all aspects of IT specification, including the overall designs, architectures, topologies of the infrastructure.
Recommends proactive, innovative IT solutions for the improvement of IT design and operation whenever and wherever possible.
Translates logical designs into physical designs, taking account of business requirements, target environments, processes, performance requirements, existing systems and services, and any potential safety-related aspects.
Advises and guides management on the design and planning phases of IT systems. Ensures that requirements (particularly capacity, recovery, performance and security needs) are reflected in the overall specifications.
Advises and guides all areas of IT and business management, analysts, planners, designers and developers on all aspects of IT design and technology.
Updates or provides input to cost benefit analyses, risk assessments, business cases, statements of requirements (SoRs) and invitations to tender (ITTs), and development plans, to take account of design decisions.
Obtains and assists with the evaluation and selection of proposals and solutions from suppliers of equipment, software and other IT service and product providers.
EDUCATION
Essential:
oDegree in Computer Science with consulting experience and expertise in one or more technical domains and deep knowledge of hosting infrastructure.
Desirable:
oITIL v3 experience and certification
PRODUCT/MARKET/CUSTOMER KNOWLEDGE
Good understanding of compliance and security requirements
SKILLS/JOB RELATED KNOWLEDGE
Strong customer facing and relationship management skills
Familiar with qualified infrastructures
Good understanding of the overall technical environment of the company
Proven track record working with multinational teams
