Engineer Mohammed Yousuf who makes community proud by overcoming disability

People who have handicaps or obstacles can also find ways to overcome these obstacles and achieve their intended goal. This was proved right by Mr. Mohammed Yousuf, who is serving as research engineer in Department of Transportation Washington DC. Mohammed Yousuf has been suffering from polio since the age of two and a half years. But despite suffering from polio, he never felt sorry for himself and struggled to achieve his goal through his high spirits. Parents and maternal grand mother’s love and cooperation of community sympathizers encouraged Mohammed Yousuf to stand on his own. And today he has become a movement to help the disabled around the world.

Mohammed Yousuf was admitted in 2nd standard at the age of 11 years. Mohammed Yousuf’s father decided to open a Kirana shop for him but his maternal grandmother shifted him to Hyderabad from Nizamabad, his birth town, and arranged a maid to take care of him. According to Mohammed Yousuf he was so weak that he could not even lift his bag. Soon he passed SSC and intermediate and wrote entrance test. He got admission in a private engineering college. He did BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering. In 1988 he qualified TOEFL by securing 553 marks.  Mohammed Yousuf told that he had to face insult during school and college days, but he disregarded it. Faiz-e-Aam Trust also played an important role in lifting Mohammed Yousuf. He made it his goal in life to serve disabled He founded Help Handicap Foundation which is known today as Equally Able Foundation. His foundation helped 4000 disabled and linked 350 people with employment. Mohammed Yousuf is the father of 3 children and is leading a happy life.

On the occasion Managing Editor Siasat daily Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan told that disabled person are badly ignored in the society but Andhra Pradesh government has launched many schemes for the disabled which general public is unaware of. Mr. Zaheeruddin Ali Khan further stated belittling disabled and confining them to a corner of the house is imprudent.
