In order to overcome the power supply constraints to some extent and to protect the most precious natural resources for future generations, the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM) has decided to take forward the energy conservation movement to the door steps of public in a big way in addition to other measures like optimisation of generation, purchase of power from outside and so on.
At a high-level meeting, Chief Secretary and Chairperson of State Energy Conservation Mission Minnie Mathew said the government also constituted district-level energy committees under the chairmanship of district Collectors and SE/Operation/DISCOMs as member convenor to initiate action at the grass root levels in the field. M. Sahoo, Principal Secretary, Energy, B. Sam Bob, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Munindra, Special Secretary, Energy, Saina Nehwal and Pullela Gopichand, ace international badminton players were present.
Appreciating the sports celebrities for voluntarily extending their willingness and unstinted support to the noble cause of energy conservation, she requested all celebrities in the State to extend support to the energy conservation programs, which would create wide range of awareness among the electricity consumers on the impact and benefit of energy conservation and energy efficiency activities.
Assuring their full support to the activities of SECM in the interest of State, Saina Nehwal and Pullela Gopichand said that Energy conservation is a social responsibility and requested all the stakeholders to actively take part in holy movement of energy conservation.
The Chief Secretary said as per Energy Conservation Committee report, huge energy savings are possible in the State and appealed to every consumer to tap this potential not only to pave the way for avoiding wastage of precious power, but also reducing their electricity bills in particular. (NSS)
