Generally slum dwellers are held responsible for making inroads into government land in cities and towns but in a rare case, Karnataka Slum Development Board has reportedly encroached upon Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike land in Yelahanka.
This shocking fact came to fore on Friday when Bangalore Mayor B S Satyanarayana and other officers visited Yelahanka to see the progress made in the installation of bio-methanisation plant.
As the work is under way and would take 15 days for the plant to become operational, what shocked the mayor was encroachment of BBMP land around the plant by the Slum Development Board, which is meant to turn out slums and ascertain decent living conditions for the urban poor.
The mayor told the reports, “The encroachment by Slum Development Board is the biggest hindrance to operatonalise biomethanisation plant. We will clear the encroachment.”The mayor would write to the board on Monday, asking it to give up its claim over the Palike land.
