Encounter killing of Maoists: AP Police directed to file report

Hyderabad, March 13: The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission has directed the State police to file a detailed report by March 15 on the killing of two top Maoist leaders, Sakhamuri Appa Rao and Solipeta Kondal Reddy. Acting on a petition filed by the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Union (APCLU), SHRC Chairman B Subhashan Reddy last night directed the Superintendents of Police of Prakasam and Warangal districts to file their report on March 15.

Dubbing the killing of Maoist leaders as ‘fake encounters’, the APCLU demanded registering a murder case against police personnel responsible for the same. Meanwhile, the body of Appa Rao, who carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was shifted to the Markapuram Government hospital, police said.

CPI(Maoist) State Committee member Appa Rao, who was allegedly involved in over 40 cases, including the assassination bid on former Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu and N Janardhan Reddy, was gunned down during an exchange of fire with police in Prakasam district.

Another CPI(Maoist) State Committee member S Kondal Reddy was killed in Warangal district. Kondal Reddy, a native of Chittapur in Dubbaka Mandal of Medak district, was involved in more than 30 cases and carried a reward of Rs five lakh on his head.
