Employees try to cordon off SP office

Sangareddy, February 25: Tension prevailed for some time at the district headquarters on Thursday when some employees led by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) tried to cordon off the office of the Superintendent of Police. There was a brawl between the police who tried to prevent the agitators and employees who tried to barge in.

Alleging that the SP has been bringing pressure on the Ministerial employees not to participate in the non-cooperation movement, JAC leaders led by its district convenor M. Rajender held a motor cycle rally from the Collectorate to SP office. Police had already erected barricades to prevent the agitators. The JAC leaders entered into an argument with the police officials asking why the employees were being prevented from participating in the agitation.

Police arrested some agitators. Later discussions were held with JAC leaders by SP A. Sunder Kumar Das.

He made it clear to the agitators that the staff is free to register their protest during lunch hour, according to Mr. Rajender. Former MLC R. Satyanarayana alleged that the SP has been trying to suppress the agitation as he belongs to Andhra area.

He warned that the employees would not be cowed down with the threats by the officials. On the other hand, the non-cooperation continued on Thursday also with employees not attending duties. Agitators held dharna, rasta roko and burnt the effigy protesting over the comments made by Lagadapati Rajagopal.
