Staff at the Milan outlet of Abercrombie & Fitch are punished for each mistake that they make in a bizarre manner.
While male staff members at the designer store are made to do 10 press-ups for each mistake, female employees are forced to do 10 squat thrusts, union members told The Guardian.
While this form of punishment is common in a boot camp, it is quite unheard of at a retail outlet. The manager of the store sent an email to its staff members which stated that the punishment would ensure that they learn more from their mistakes.
The store hires only those males who have perfect abs to work as assistants as they have to greet buyers with bared torsos, reveals the daily. The women are sometimes asked to take their make-up off if they are found to be wearing too much of it. The men are sometimes asked to go home and shave off their stubble.
The designer store was hit by a discrimination lawsuit in the US in 2004. In 2009, a handicapped worker won damages after yet another designer store in London hid her in the stock room as she allegedly did not meet the firm’s look.
