Empati, son of a tailor to become 1st doctor in family

Hyderabad: Students of Rangareddy district walked away with top honours, bagging seven of the 10 ranks, in the engineering stream of Telangana State (TS-EAMCET) 2019, the results of which were declared on Sunday.

Empati Kushwanth, son of a tailor in Bhupalpally district in Telangana bagged 7 of the 10 ranks. Kushwanth’s only dream was to support his mother as she is the breadwinner for the family after his father.

He completed intermediate from Sri Chaitanya Junior College’s Hydernagar branch and secured all India rank 16 in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research’s (JIPMER) entrance test.

More than 98,200 students who qualified in the engineering stream secured normalised marks between 40 and 80, 4,198 candidates between 81 and 120 and only 145 students scored between 121 and 160. In case of AM stream, over 48,970 got normalised marks between 40 and 80, 10,544 students secured from 81 to 120 and 544 candidates got between 121 and 160.

The TOI quoted Empati as saying: “I was always scared of Science as a subject. I wanted to defeat that fear and hence decided to pursue MBBS. I see myself as a neurosurgeon in future. Since I secured good marks in JIPMER and now Eamcet, I am confident that I will secure a seat in AIIMS.”

“I used to attend college from 6 to 10 am and then study for another 10 hours,” he added.

As many as 28,663 candidates in engineering and 8,489 in AM did not qualify. Prof. Papi Reddy said the EAMCET admission counselling could commence from June 20. The candidates can download their rank cards from http://eamcet.tsche.ac.in.
