Emirati woman makes it to South Pole in 20 days

Abu Dhabi, March 31: Emirati woman Dana Al Hamadi, who made it to the South Pole in 20 days, has paid rich tribute to Shaikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, representative of the President and Chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club, for his kind sponsorship .

In a statement to the Press after returning home, she said the support given to her by Shaikh Sultan had achieved the wish of all citizens of the country — raising high the picture of the President, His highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and hoisting the UAE flag on the South Pole.

She expressed her delight at becoming the first Emirati woman to visit the place, where she had also raised aloft the slogan of the Emirates Heritage Club.

She cast light on the journey saying she and other globetrotters had crossed most dangerous seas in the world with high waves and turbulent water.

The participants had also watched the wildlife and the sea animals such as the dolphins, whales and penguins, and the melting of icebergs, which adversely affect many parts of the world.

Al Hamadi started her journey from Dubai and went to Brazil, Argentina and up to Ashwaya city.

The journey was made in coordination and cooperation with a UK organisation, and came as part of the strategy of the Emirates Heritage Club which aims at achieving many heritage, sports and social feats. It was also designed to encourage the participation of Emirati women in many events and activities at the international level.
