Mauritius: An Emirates flight was descending into Mauritius when it narrowly avoided a mid-air collision with a passenger jet of Air Seychelles. As the A380 descended into the path of the ascending Air Seychelles flight, the crews of both flights could see each other.
The near-collision was reportedly due to the miscommunication over the altitude of two planes, the Emirates crew member read back the wrong number and air-traffic controllers did not correct them as the A380 descended to land at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius, the national reports.
The double-decker aircraft, with a capacity of 498 passengers, almost crashed into the Air Seychelles Airbus A320-200 plane, which had just taken off from the same airport.
“The matter has been reported to the respective air transport authorities and Emirates will extend its full cooperation to any investigation. The safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance,” Emirates spokesperson said.
