Embroidered with 120kg of gold, 25kg of silver threads, new Kiswa put on Kaaba

Makkah: The covering cloth of the Kaaba, known as Kiswa, is changed on Sunday September 11, 2016 at Masjid al-Haram in Saudi Arabia.

The annual ceremony was held on Dhul Hijjah 9, every year after Fajr prayer on the day of Arafat.

14-meter-long Ghilaf-e-Kaaba is prepared with an estimated 120kg of gold and 25kg of silver threads inscribed with Quranic verses.

The old Kiswa is torn into pieces and gifted to foreign dignitaries after the changing ceremony.

A special factory was construction to be exclusively devoted to the manufacture of the Kiswa in Ajyad district in Makkah.
