Embarrassed Council chairman summons DGP

Hyderabad, December 26: State Legislative Council chairman A Chakrapani, who faced embarrassment at the Begumpet airport when a police officer prevented him from approaching President Pratibha Patil on her arrival yesterday, today summoned principal secretary to GAD (Protocol) RM Gonela and DGP K Aravinda Rao to his chambers to seek an explanation on the incident.

The two senior officials regretted the inconvenience caused to him and assured him of initiating disciplinary action against the erring official (ACP Karunakar Reddy).

Talking to newsmen later, Chakrapani said the officials had admitted their lapses and had assured him to take necessary steps for inclusion of the names of the Council chairman and the Assembly speaker in Protocol list.

“They (senior officials) have admitted their fault and agreed to correct themselves to avert such incidents in the future. The ACP’s behaviour was unbecoming of him. The DGP has assured me of disciplinary action against the erring official. They have expressed their regrets. I am convinced and there is no issue now,” he added.
