Chandigarh, April 04: In view of the declining sex ratio in Haryana, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today urged the people of the state to eliminate the rampant practice of female foeticide.
“It is high time to work for the protection of the girl child, which symbolises the holy Goddess. We pray to ‘Mata’ and would also work for the betterment of girls,” he said.
Hooda was speaking at Shri Mata Mansa Devi shrine in Panchkula near here on the occasion of the beginning of the nine-day Navratra festival.
In Haryana, the sex ratio in the 0-6 age group is 830, as compared to the state average of 877 females per 1,000 males.
Replying to a question on honouring members of the Indian cricket team which won the World Cup, Hooda said the date of the felicitation of the cricketers would be finalised in consultation with them.
