Electric poles of Asif Jahi era stolen at Asman Gadh

Asif Jahi rulers always gave priority to the welfare and prosperity of its citizens; hence despite the end of Asif Jahi kingdom, the people of Andhra Pradesh and some regions of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamilnadu are still utilizing the projects started in Asif Jahi era.

The entire country remained plunged into darkness till 1879. After Kolkata and Crawford market of Mumbai where experiment of using electricity was carried out, Hyderabad was the first to arrange electricity in an organized manner. Thus when the whole country remained plunged into darkness, electricity illuminated the royal palaces of Hyderabad. Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan Bahadur, Mahboob Ali Pasha undertook the task to supply electricity to the whole state and on October 29, 1910 electricity department was formed.

One can still find the electric poles installed at that time, at several places of Hyderabad. But the staff of APGENCO is underselling the unique historical electric poles. In the recent past we could find the electric poles installed during Asif Jahi period in Asmangarh and surrounding areas but recently the staff of electricity department removed at least 25 antique poles and sold them off in scrap. The antique poles are replaced by cement poles in areas like Asmangarh, Qalandarnagar, Moin Bagh, Habeeb Nagar, and Riyasathnagar.
